Aside that I drafted future Hall O’ Famer Tom Glavine for my fantasy league Sea Otters [America’s team] and traded him for Matt Cain, I was delighted to see my Mets win on opening day. If I recall, the original Mets of ’62 lost their first nine games before getting win number one. Their early on ineptitude set the tone for the mindset of what it means to be a Mets fan. The Amazing ’69 Miracle Team and the Chinese army will never change that “how can things get fucked up?” ‘tude we all share.
A win in April is just as important as a win in September. Wire to wire would be terrific. So would Santa coming down the chimney on Christmas. Quoth Virginia, nevermore.
