Steroidal Scandal Mess Hitting Fan

November 7, 2007 at 10:15 am (Baseball)

Former Mariners outfielder Jose Guillen and two former Major League players, Matt Williams and Ismael Valdez, bought performance-enhancing drugs from a Florida clinic, the San Francisco Chronicle reported on Tuesday.

Matt Williams? Holy syringe, Batman. Not much is being made of this, but Williams was a big name. He was chasing down Roger Maris’ record, the year Pud Selig canceled the World Serious [lest we forget]…

… The more names that come out, the more credit we must give to the likes of Bonds, McGwire [and yes, Canseco], Sosa, and Palmero.

Here’s a tip of my tattered Mets cap to you, G. Mota. You may have been the number one reason the New Yawkas didn’t make the post-season playoffs, but at least you did it on an even playing field.

Despite Indians starter Paul Byrd admitting last month he took human growth hormone in the wake of a published report, on Tuesday, Marc Shapiro, the Tribe’s GM, exercised an option in Byrd’s contract, bringing him back to Cleveland in 2008.

So we go on “rooting for the laundry” and, now, the player’s chemist.

Much like the “SS Shapiro,” draped over a commode in an apartment on 4th ave, not a pretty picture.
