First Trade… A Blockbuster

February 29, 2008 at 10:08 pm (Fantasy Baseball)

After three unaccepted offers and two declined counter-offers, just as all hope for a deal with the only team rich enough in relievers to make it happen, the Sea Otters got their [our] man. In a three-for- one deal I got Billy Wagner and starting pitchers Fausto Carmona and Aaron Harang. I traded Johan Santana [yes the highest paid, most coveted pitcher in Baseball this past winter] and cut Cubs closer candidates Bob Howry and Carlos Marmol [Kerry Wood will probably win the job, keep it for a week and throw his arm out] to satisfy roster limits…

It’s been hours and no buyer’s remorse has set in. That’s a good sign… I guess.

I’m ready for the season. Let the real games begin.

OMG Ralphie, you traded the one guy you had hoped all off season would become a Met. Santana is an A1 premier pitcher no matter what league he plays in, so I hope it works out for you. You did get 3 solid pitchers in return.

If you can pick up Kerry Wood (who Peter Gammons is very high on) and if he stays healthy you have a great bullpen, but your trade avoided the one issue you needed to address, power.

But I’m a football guy who always finished second to Greg Hack, so what do I know?

Bill James always said that left handers switching leagues were more likely to have success than righties.

    Go Otters.

Wood is brittle, Gammons a clown. Andruw comeback year will solve power problem… I’m a hoping.
