Kittatinny Camp Mystery Bunk 1955

July 14, 2008 at 4:34 pm (Kittatinny Camp)

If you attended KLC n 1955 and you were 12 at the time, you may have been in this bunk. I found this picture on the internet. I suspect one of the campers was Richard Braunstein.

lower left looks like harry sandler, a cousin of mine from atlantic city, top row center is steve ..i think “rotman” . is the right side counsellor tillie segal?
top right…??? herbie flachner from n.y.c.

  2. Bob Berk said,

I kinda agree with Gary – I believe that person does resemble Steve Rotman. Don’t know if the counselor is Tillie Segal – hair seems too light .
…and Harry Sandler does ring a bell

The camper in the center is definitely Steve Rotman . The counsellor in the front row on the right is Abe Solomon.

  5. Bob Berk said,

    George,

I do recall that name, and, the face DOES seem correct, but, I can’t put the face with the name.

    Time will do that!

The counselor on the left is NOT Tilman Segal. If you go further and look at other pictures from 1956 and 1957 (a picture of him as a counselor and coach of the 14 y o team) there is a resemblance but thre are too many differences : Hair is different, lips are different, legs are different – but they could pass for brothers. I still do not know who the counselor in 1955 is.

    Helen:
Good to hear from you. I would have thought that Chuck Rait gave you this address. The pictures would be priceless and you need to just send them to the blogmaster of this site and he will put them on and return them to you. The name you are looking for is Mitch Cohen, I think.
Did you see the rest of the pictures on this site – yes you are in them.

    Helen,

Good to hear your “voice” In 1955, I was in that bunk (31) before transferring to #32. The faces STILL do not associate with a name in my mind.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Is this a final farewell? Or memories which are so strong that they never grow old?

  18. Richard Rheiner said,

I have never forgotten that wonderful camp. My parents were so very good to me and sent me there in 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1952. I was a camper waiter and a busboy and bunked with some of the reatest guys.
I remember Freddie Hartman, Donny Appel, Richie and Fred Cirlin, Larry Weintraub and a whole host of wonderful people. Henry Moss, JacK Shapiro and Chuck Smerin. My God how I loved those summers and those wonderful people. I drove up to Kittatinny Camp 3 or 4 years ago and found to my shock that it was gone. All that remained was the gateway sign and the baseball fielld that was bein used by residents of the area. I am overwhelmed with nostalgia after viewing these snapshots.
Uncle A was a great camp director and he truly cared about us. God Bless everyone associated with that wonderful place. Truly the best years of our lives
