Mets, Yankees 2009 Uniform Patch

January 5, 2009 at 8:46 pm (Baseball, New York Mets)

The Mets have unvailed the patch they’ll be wearing to comemorate the opening of their new ballpark. I like it.

Yankees 2009 patch:

Here’s last years Washington Nationals patch, from their inaugural season.

… and my all time favorite, the 1964 Mets Worlds Fair patch:

That’s the worst looking patch I’ve ever seen! Who designed that crap?

  2. Ralph Zig Tyko said,

Not so. It’s fine, if not outstanding.

what’s to like? this looks like my 2 year old designed it. it says nothing. no image of the team’s logo or anything about the stadium. check out what other teams have done, including the hated yankees.

    they all got it right.
and the mets even have a good inaugural season logo for citifield – but they’re only using it on stadium sold merchandise, not on the patch. that makes no sense.

no wonder the mets won’t sign manny. after bernie madoff got done with wilpon’s money, they couldn’t even afford a graphic designer to make a good patch.

Points well taken. I do, however, like the simplicity. It doesn’t detract from the classic patch on the other sleeve… As for Manny, they they still may surprise, and sign both he and Lowe. From my mouth to gawd’s ears.

  5. Simon Static said,

Tube Row, they can’t use the other patch, MLB won’t allow any corporate logos on uniforms. But all they’d need to do is remove the part that says Citi.

  6. John Feeney said,

Another embarrassment! Doubly so, as I’m a graphic Designer AND a Mets fan… they should have incorporated their past while embracing the future. Interesting how the design agency/designer is never mentioned anywhere… Domino’s Pizza, anyone?
